I believe 501 -- sealed beam lights were one of the features of the Super M.

John, that was intentional because I wasn't sure -- I worded it that way because I thought it would get disputed -- Ken Updike gave the right answer. I have a Stage 2 Super H with the new style, My parts manual does not show a teardrop, except for the rear light. The SH came out after after the Super M. Interestingly, the H parts manual also lists the new style, although they never left the factory that way.

My SM parts book does not give a changeover serial number. It has both lights listed. The actual date probably varied by assembly line and took several weeks or months to complete the changeover, depending on local stocks.

Wardner, don't know what printing of part book you have but have looked at this before.Where it shows the lights buy there self it doesn't say, but look at pics showing wireing and lights for tractors F-501 to F-28174 and L-500001 to L-504801
and it shows the teardrop lights.Look at the pics
for higher serial tractors and it shows sealed beam. So i'm saying the change is showed from stage 1 to stage 2.Don't know if that realy happend or not.

The sealed beam (pie pan) style lights were used on the Super M's built serial number 28175(Farmall built) and 504802(Louisville built) and AFTER.

The parts book shows this as the headlight harness changes from the single wire (52973DA) to the two wire (358916R91) at these serial numbers. The headlights changed at the same time.
