This fall I blew up my PTO shaft baling, i haven't taken it apart yet to see what broke but what i'am trying too find out if there is a sort of live pto (shift on the go) that can be put in to the tractor. I got a IT manual and in it, it shows a independent pto unit with reactor bands off anouther tractor (4,6,w6,or md ?) I got a picture of a MD in a book and it says it has a "live pto". Has any body out there tied too put a independent pto into a 48H or has done this, any info is much appreciated, Thanx Guys.

There is definitely no true "live" PTO for the H. There is no aftermarket option available that will give the H true live PTO. The best you can do is that M&W hand clutch, but that only allows you to stop the tractor, not shift. Also, they're no longer manufactured, and parts are no longer available. Finding one in good condition that is not already installed on a tractor is difficult to impossible, especially if you're thinking that you don't want to pay a fortune for it.

No factory ITPO on H sized tractors until the 300. M&W made a clutch that fit in place of the right side brake. It interupted power to the wheels but allowed power to flow to the PTO. If you install one of these, your will still have to repair your existing PTO. The pictures you saw were taken from a SMTA or SW6TA.

Thank you for your replies, the photo in the book is a 41 MD, owned by Alan Smith, with a M-W gear box , now I know what the M-W box does
