My cub has decided to stop running. It turns over well and coughs once or twice, but refuses to fire. Gas runs out of the carb if the cut-off is opened for only a few minutes so I think it might be a float problem. If I change the plugs it will fire up, but the next time I try it refused to run. Your thoughts are appreciated.

From what you have said it soulds like its time to rebuild the carb and see where your gas problem is. I'd guess your float maybe bad or the needle/seat is bad or cloged up with junk and not closeing as it should.

Mike, farmalls arent my things as its been long ago since I owned them, so heres just a few general thoughts.

Fer sure, it sounds like the float and/or needle n seat are at fault if the cabrs flooding over. Sometime if you can get Gumout in the needle n seat assembly area it may clean gum n varnish (plus tap on them lightly) if thats causing the needle to stick n fail to rise n close into the seat. It could be the floats sprung a leak and sinks also, however.

Especially if its a mag, it dont take too much raw gas to foul the plugs which a good cleaning and dry out may cure, but if they get wet fouled n carboned up too badly it may need new plugs.

Im more into electricity but this may get ya started till the good farmall men arrive.

Mike, my cub did exactly the same thing, and I rebuilt the carb and it solved the problem. Unfortunately, I originally thought it was a spark problem and replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, points and wires....all to no avail. Start with a good cleaningof the carb and then go from there, it may not need a complete rebuild...it is more likely dirt in the valve seat and probably not the float.

Good luck
