I have a hole in my 48 cub dashboard and I can't figure out what belongs there. I have the standard Amp gauage, the light/charging switch unit and a round hole about the size of the opening for the Amp gauge next to the Amp gauge. Could this be where a tach or proof meter goes? Thanks!

Mike:

Those are knock-out plugs. If your plug is knocked out, then you might consider doing what I and many others have done... re-locate your Oil Pressure Guage from the Oil Filter Housing to the dash. Just requires about a 2 foot length of 1/4" (I think that is the right size) brake line.

You will have to cut the ends off, add the proper butt ends and re-flare.. Sure looks nice AND makes checking the Oil Pressure a darn sight easier....

Not sure if the factory ever did anything with that hole. They may have had plans to fit the oil pressure gauge or water temp guage in the hole or knockout.

It is certainly not for a tach. I have a new Cub tach and it fits on a bracket which I don't have. I think it is flat and made out of something like 11 guage steel. It should be illustrated in any parts manual that has the coil ignition listed. The tack is the same size as the other Stewart Warner tachs used in the larger tractors.

It should have a blank piece of steel in there. Someone must have knocked it out. I know a couple guys have run a temp gauge up there or moved the oil pressure gauge up to the dash and have used that hole.
