Got my 1950 Farmall MD home today from the bushes. Hadn't been going in 4 years+ Anyways the engine was actually free!! The other amazing part was that after towing it around the yard all afternoon the old girl started to run. After I got it running for awhile I heard this pinging, or nocking noise. I right away shut off the tractor, the noise was coming from the clutch housing. And now the clutch will not disengage, the clutch pedal will not move. Any Idea what it could be before I split the Tractor. Also would the fact that I was using a little Starting Fluid while towing it cause something in the clutch to let go, For some reason I think I remember someone telling me that this is Possible. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
Matt

The MD clutch can be removed and replaced from the bottom without splitting the tractor. I've done it. The clutch in the MD is the same as the M. If it is a Super series, then you have to split the tractor.

It wouldn't surprise me if you found a really big mouse nest in there. The mouse pee will rust everything up and the nest will get all wadded up in the release arms. The little buggers seem to love clutch housings, if they can find a way in there they will make themselves at home. Bad news is I'm pretty sure an MD clutch won't come out the belly pump hole like a regular M will so you may have to split the tractor if you need to do more than just clean it out. Let us know what it turns out to be. Ed

Before you go to the trouble of splitting the tractor, drop the lift all unit out and take a look up in there. You will be able to see what is wrong and may be able to fix from there.
