Well this is where I am at. I see the small wire from the to of the solinoid but can't see where it goes {crappy eyes} I followed it the best I could and looks to go up to the instrument panel. Now it was said that it goes to the amp gauge to feed power elsewhere. I have on my panel a water temp gauge a light switch the speedo and ofcourse the ignition switch. Now I did see behind the speedo after taking it out a small what looks to be a relay just above the steering coloum with some wires going into that.
I guess what I am asking, and given what I have, where would that wire be attached to. I am thinking maybe just run a new one.
Sorry to bug ya again guy's.
Thanks AL

Im not sure of previous posts but along with electrical, there is a common problem with U"s and other IH that the starter hangs in the flywheel and it feels just like a dead battery or possibly you get nothing at all. When all else fails loosen the bolts on the starter and see if it will turn over. Then retighten.

Are you sure that wire isn't hooked to your switch? One of those wires on the solenoid should be hot (have voltage) that feeds voltage to your switch. There should be another wire off your switch that's connected to the s terminal on your solenoid if this a key start.
This wire would only be hot when cranking your engine. Check that wire for voltage by just probing through the insulation covering that you have trouble tracing. Hal

I did that Hal poked each wire and got nothing. The top of the solenoid that has the battery cable to it also has a small 10g wire as well which is live That is the one I think I am having problems with. I still do not have power at the S terminal on the solenoid even when turning the key.
So I think I need to find where that wire from the battery goes switch, lights/ relay??? I am not sure.
AL
Thanks again Hal

Can you trace the wire from the s terminal bck to the switch? There should be voltage on this wire when you turn the key to crank and when the key is released there should be voltage to your ignition. When the key is in the off position
it kills the voltage to your ignition and this what happens when stopping the engine. Check for voltage at the switch to see if it has voltage from the solenoid. That hot wire may be broken somewhere that's coming off the solenoid. Can you touch that terminal with your volt meter to see if it has voltage. If the battery cable has voltage at the starter, you should have it on that small terminal. Make sure your tractor is out of gear and with the brakes set. Take a screwdriver and put it across those small terminals on the solenoid and see if the engine
cranks. Be careful doing this. This will tell you if that terminal has voltage. Hal

That is my problem it think Hal. They had split the tractor and I think maybe pinched the small wire that feeds power back to the switch. The harness runs right up against the frame.
I guess I will just run a new wire?
Thanks again Hal for all your help, you were a huge help.

I thinks a broken wire is your problem. That terminal is hot all the time and that feeds your
ignition switch and the switch feeds voltage to the s terminal when cranking and then to your ignition. Your lights may be wire through the switch too. Let's us know if you solve your problems. Hal

My dad had "others" pinch a wire it was a meltdown mess. Be sure to disconnect the wire you are replacing. I'm the one that thought there was an amp gauge on the tractor (silly me) if none, the 10ga wire from the solenoid hot terminal should go to the Ign sw. A wiring diagram/manual is a good idea. Lots O luck JimN
