I just found out that the crack in the front of the block on my Super A was just a simptom. The front lower frame is also cracked all the way through. It was running fine but we needed to pull it and pulled from the front axle. This opened up an old "bondo repair. Any hints or suggestions?

Mike

I think it depends exactly were it is. It may be alble to be weled with Ny rod. Or you could use JB weld. There is this new stuff my dad got at work. The "lock tite" rep. came in and gave him a tube of this "clay" like stuff. He said it works good for cracked cast blocks. I"m looking at a 300U with a crack and think we may give this stuff a try. There are only two solutions.

Weld the block (suggest an AWS certified welder and pay the bucks).

Replace the cracked parts, including the engine block.

This is a stressed member and there is no choice but to do it correctly. Sorry there is no option.

There is one other option - cold metal repair, otherwise known as metal locking. Specialty shops do it, but usually go after the big machines - pipeline compressors, etc. If you can find a shop that can do cold metal repair, that is a very good option.
