Can I replace a Schrader valve while tire is still on the tractor? The valve core rotted out and cannot be removed so I need to replace the whole thing. What I fear is the stem sucking back into the wheel and having to remove the tire from rim to fix. Would like to avoid that. Thanks fellas.

I changed the core valve on a tractor tire last week. I went to put air in it and it had turned green and corroded so badly there was nothing left to get a hold of to just change the valve. The tire was loaded so I set it with the valve at the top..should have then jacked the tractor up, but didn't ,turned the core out, put my thumb over the tube valve and then quickly jammed the new one in and turned it tight..maybe lost a few quarts of fluid, job done! As UNCLE says the tube valve will be held in place by a plastic nut so you shouldn't need to worry about the tube popping back into the tire. Make sure the replacement core is the right one. There are two types which the tire dealer refers to as the "old style" vs. "new style' Not to worry as the old style were for tractors such as 2N, 8N Fords. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

You got luckier than I did. I tried to do the same thing on a tube less than a year old, and the whole metal part of the stem was corroded to nothing. As soon as I twisted the core housing the whole thing came right off the tube. I pumped out the tire broke it down and put in another new tube from a different dealer. The dealer I got the tubes from last summer (Farmall M, four new tires and tubes, nearly $900 installed), had already been out last summer to replace one tube. The tires were less than two months old at the time, and the only break he would give me was to sell the new tube at cost. The only reason I didn't do that one myself was that the tractor wasn't at home, and I expected a little support from the dealer. That tube looked as if he had pinched it with a tire iron when he did the original installation. I didn't even bother to call him about the latest one, and will not be calling him soon about any other tires.

If the tire still has air in it, or you can still fill it up some ,just unscrew it , take it off and put a new one on it in one fell swoop while air is exiting the tube, there even may still be a little plastic nut that should hold the tube in place, if you are still concerned, just do it a little slower.I do have a little tool that chases the threads of the valve and I replaced a rotten core once, and saved a new tube on a fork lift.
