On my farmall A I have to adjust the maximum-speed set screw down so far to keep the engine from running to fast that the throttle lever can not be pushed all the way forward and the throttle linkage seems to be okay and the ignition timeing is right, but I can"t figure out whats wrong.

With engine off open throttle wide open. The clevis that goes to the carb from the gov you want to remove the pin. After pin is out hold the linkage to open the carb wide open and adjust clevis so the pin goes in free. The input shaft on the gov can be repaired to eliminate side sloppiness and mite want to replace the gov spring also. I find when everything is in good shape the throttle will work just fine.

Mr. Farmall: That is quite normal, most of them were that way from when new. It just means you have a few notches left as wear occurs in the throttle linkage. Since, with good maintainence the Farmall A will be around for 250 years, thus it may wear to the point of needing those 3 or 4 notches.
