Check out the 300U metal replica, there is a tie rod assembly that attaches to the top of each spindle and bends under the oil pan and across to the other side. This is in addition to the drag links that come off the steering box.If a model thats never meant to be actually "used" for any work has this reinforcement, how come the real UTE didnt feature this? (I do realize this is how the model actually steers....and not thru a real steering box persay, but this added feature seems to make sense).

Paul, I have thought about doing just that. I even considered buying a aftermarket power steering kit for another tractor and adapting it. Another, cheaper thought was to make the pitman arms longer, (2x), this would decrease the steering effort by half. When I get time for this project ....

I think that tying the wheels together would have reduced the wear on the steering box over the long haul.I realize that IH didnt use one because they were striving for clearance underneath and because the axle is so high-set any link would have to be offset a mile downward meaning it might bend easily under stress.I find that a lot of the wear on my box is because the wheels want to move in separate directions, and a link would have minimized that happening in the first place.

The 350UD (owned by a Indiana neighbor) I often refer to had hydrostatic steering. There was no mechanical connection. There was a cylinder under the front of the engine moving the tie rods. This thing never wore out or had difficulty, nor did it leak. Could this system be crossed to the 300-350 gas???

There is nothing in my 300U/350U parts catalog that includes diesel about a hydro steering system. It prob is not factory. I would be interested in seeing that if you could locate the guy. I live near the IN border.

There was a post yesterday on a wide front for H that had a hydro with pics.

Depends on if the oil pan has the same clearance for the sump.

Sorry I'm 750 miles from where it ---might--- be in Indiana.
