Listening to the 6am news today out of Chatham ON, I learned that one of our regulars Mitch Poole aka Farmallkid from Ontario has been given special recognition for his involvment in the 4H movement. This news report was of a Rural-Urban Banquet held last evening in Chatham. Way to go Mitch, not many better awards than being recognized by your community.

Perhaps you could respond and elaborate a bit more on this award. I think I've heard rumblings about an old tractor making it's way to 4H. I also think I heard you being interviewed on the noon Farm Show out of Chatham. Can't be sure on that as I had a diesel running and just caught the end of the item. Join me folks in congratulating Mitch.

About the tractor that hugh mentioned. A couple guys from around here including my dad wanted to start a tractor restoration club for 4-H. So they started one up, the tractor is know done. We have made a book for ontario 4-H so anyone else in ontario can start a club up. We know for sure this is the first club of it's kind in Ontario, and kind of sure it is the first club in Canada also. We did evertthing from tear down to rebuild, engine, paint everything!

Mitch: Am I also correct in assuming the tractor was an H????? Kind of neat an H by 4-H. Not sure you are the first in Canada on that one though? I did hear of another but it was only in planning stages, about 5 years ago, so maybe it never happened.

Congratulations, Kid! You've got spunk! I work closely with my buddy's 16 year-old on some red tractors and he's in to it, but your type are too hard to find. It's refreshing and too rare to see a kid with hands-on common sense these days. Keep it up!

Thanks alot guys! This award go"s to the top male and top female in the Chatham-Kent 4-H Program, every county has the same kind of thing. This is an award that go"s to 2 outstanding members of 4-H, The nominating committee looks at your records, to see what you have volunteered in, what positions you have held in the clubs, and many other 4-H related things, as well as comunity stuff, like the western ontario steam threshers asso. and east kent vintage equipment club i belong to. the award usually go"s to a person in grade 12. I was supprised when i got the call that i had won it. I also had to wright a speech about my 4-H career, and what it means to me, I put in my speech that "4-H Is also About convincing the JD Guys How much better INTERNATIONAL TRACTORS ARE! Cause we have had alot of after meeting disscussion about the red green war. All the farmers at the banquet with jd tractors came up to me and said what is up with that!LOL. Thats the first time i said a speech, and it was infront of almost 1000 people. And yes hugh i was interviewed for the noon farm report on cfco. I Got a glass award, a certificate from the mayor, and a local MP, also from the radio staion who gave me a Scholarship.

After the deal was done people came to congratulate me, and a guy came up to dad, he said " I heard you guys are collecting Ih" Dad said ya we are, he said Well, i got an old Ih truck that i got, i ain"t getting around to, cause i"m gettin older, so if your interested come see me, and we can make a deal. I"m not sure what model it is, i"m pretty sure a pickup. It"s the second truck of that particular model to roll off the line in chatham ontario at Navistar, So i"m pretty excited about that!

Thanks again!

Mitch

First of all, thanks to Hugh for pointing this award out to us. I have always been impressed with Mitch on our tractor line and even moreso when I met him in person. There are not many young folks his age that show an interest in our agricultural past and when I offered a piece of that history Mitch responded and I knew immediately that he was the right person to reieve it. I am looking forward to seeing this article restored to working condition by Mitch and I know I made the right choice...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Congratulations Mitch! So good to see some positive reports on that the next gen. is setting goals for themselves, and also to see that being recognized by the community. What better way to spend your time than being involved in ag related interests. Keep the spirit alive and you will be amazed how far that can take you in life. Migraine
