Well phooey!

After visitin' with you guys 'bout my 966, I went out and used it this morning. Shut it off and the silly 3-point settles to the ground in about 20 seconds.

And here all along, I thought this was a brand new tractor. :>(

Allan that piston seal is not a o ring, it is a quad ring, you will have to heat it up in hot water or oil to get it on the piston then use a ring compressor as it cool to get it back to size so it will go into the cylinder. If the cylinder is spliting I sure would change the cushion relief valve that is what it is there for. I never heard of the system staying on pressure to hold the hitch up.

Hey, thanks for the help!

This old tractor needs to go to town to the shop for a noisey rear end anyway; its got a howl that drives me crazy! Also, the darned parking pawl doesn't hold all that good anymore.

I'm thinkin' that maybe I just ought to let the shop do all this at one swipe?

I can dink around with the little stuff, but just don't have the time to spare in guttin' a rear end these days. :>(

That roll over plow might off been a little to much on the 3pt.Have had several IH that the piston seals go bad and start to hick up ,even split the internal cylinder bore on a 856 with a 4bottom roll over.

Doubt it,

Plow 'taint that heavy and there are 'bout an easy million of us 'round these parts using those plows.

Now, that darned cultivator or a planter full of beans..... I could sure believe that. Those outfits are heavy! :>)

Naw, that rear pump has been singin' ever since I got the old tractor and I heard it first time I ran it. She's a dumpin' somewhere fer sure.

The internal regulation will fight to keep it UP (sounds like an old age problem in every way). with a heavy load it just stays in the lifting it mode, with the auger it waits till it gets low then over corrects. I'll bet it is either the cylinder seals, or the gasket mentioned in the other post.

hey, dont worry bout it. Will trade ya even up for my 544. great shape , runs great, looks great, 3 pt dont drop an inch. I'll even throw in about 10 lbs of used nuts and bolts.... only a few of the bolts are from old plow shares. Now that is a deal for ya.
