I've located a TD35 or TD40 with a homemade hydraulic dozer blade that I may be able to get for just a few hundred dollars. I looked up the serial number once and I think it is a 1937 TD40. It has electric start and was painted red. I won't be using it very much - just dozing dirt and snow now and then. Does anyone have an opinion on the reliablity and parts availability of these tractors? Is the starting procedure simple enough someone can email it to me? I have a TD40 parts book, so I can identify the control levers. Is the starting similar to a TD14? I know I can find someone around here who knows how to start one of those. The tractor hasn't run in several years, so I'll have to drain gas and put in fresh. Diesel, too, or will old diesel burn pretty well? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I have a TD35 and use it for plowing snow and pulling trucks out of the ditch every year. I also used it to build a road about 1 mile. level the house and shop site. I dont know about getting parts so far nothing has died. the only thing is the cluch needs to be adjusted so i am looking for someone that has a manual or knows how to do it.they are easy to start and run my 14 year old daughter is rather good on it.

I don't know about reliability, but owned two "projects" for a couple of months...found them will travelling for work, but had no way to get them home(this was about 6 yrs ago). As best I can remember from them, the starting system is very similar to that of the newer diesels; decompression valves open(which is the over-center position of the lever), throttle lever in the gas position(again, over-center position), crank and let run on gas for a couple minutes. When warm, pull both levers out of the over-center position at the same time...you should be rattling the windows now.

I'd replace both fuels, put the engine in diesel mode, open the injector lines, and crank awhile just to get fresh diesel right up to the injectors.

Good luck and I'd like to see a picture if you can send any.
