I went to use the 766 yesterday and when I started it the steering didn't want to work very well. It would turn but very erratic. Checked the fluid levels and everything looked fine. When I was going uphill after filling with fuel it stopped pulling when I had it at around 1500+rpm and then when I idled back it started pulling in gear again. I was in a hurry so did not have time to fool with it yesterday. All this time the steering worked but was very slow and erratic. Can someone tell me what to check for in the hydraulic area. I am not too familiar with working on anything with the hydraulics. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to avoid having to have the dealer come get it to repair.

I"m with the other guys, start out by changing the fluid and filter. Fill it 5 gallons over the full mark. If there"s no improvement after that, you"ve got issues in the MCV system, which controls steering, brakes, the TA, and transmission lubrication. I noticed you said it slipped going uphill, which would mean your hydraulic pump pick-up tube was exposed to air, indicating that your oil level was too low, or that you were on a very steep hill. That"s the reason for overfilling it 5 gallons. Now, if you figure out that there is a problem in the MCV system, you"ll probably need to have the dealer do the work. Could be anything from a problem inside the MCV valve or a worn out MCV pump to internal leakage in the TA.

Change the hdy. fluid and change the filter atleast three time a year , ya got water in the system from lack of use and it has the filter pluge and when ya get much over and ideal it is starving the steering and the T/A and unless ya want to spend big buck to replace a T/A and Pump then change the filter ya done sliped the T/A clutches already .

what do you mean by "it stopped pulling, but whe you idled back it started pulling again"? did the tractor stop moving? as far as the steering allen has good advice. get a new filter and ALOT of hytran. drain the whole lot of it and fill with new.

ZA,

When was the last time you changed that hydraulic filter? Lower right hand side of the tranny under the round cover with 2 "ears" on it.

Allan;
It has probably been 2 years since I changed the Hydraulic fluid and filter. I have gotten a new one and HyTran fluid, so I'll probably plan on doing that this weekend. I only have a small farm 70 acres with pasture, hay and a little row crop, so the tractor never sees any really hard work. Just a hay baler and 11' disc are the hardest work it has to do. Thanks for the advice.
