ARE the 560 Farmalls any good I keep reading good and bad. I may call on a gas modle tonght if they are, I under stand they had a problem with the rear end or something when new if I remember correct. I under stand the diesel is a little easier on fuel. I will mainly use it to run a round bailer and possiby put a loader on. Thanks in advance.

just to let you know about our experiance with a 560. we had a 560 gas for years, only problem we had was it ate valves every 500 hours, and liked fuel when we really used it. traded it for a 686 d, which is a glorified 560w/310 german diesel. i have ran several 560s for other people and they never had the problem we had. this past week we bought a 560d, along with a 234 picker. what a machine. its easy on fuel, picked 10 acres and used under a quarter a tank of fuel according to gauge, if it correct, havent measured it yet. also we haven"t used the tractor for anything else. take the picker off this weekend so we can use it. only problem we have is starting it, cant get used to glow plugs, or remembering to push kill switch back in(boy do i feel smart) hope this helps you. they are an awsome tractor. so thats my 2 cents worth. good luck.

I have a 560 gas and I can't find nothing bad to say about it. The first motor ran 4700 hrs before over haul. It has over 10,000 hrs on now. Still has the original TA and paint. Transmission and rear end have never been opened up. Mounted a 234 corn picker it every year for 24 years. Fuel consumption is not bad. I have a SMTA that will take more fuel than the 560. I do like the SMTA better tho. Keith

I’ve had both a 560 gas and a 560 Diesel. I never did find out how cold it had to get before a well tuned 560 gas wouldn’t start, even started at -30 F sitting outside (5W-20 oil) with no engine heater on it. Good dependable tractor, harder on fuel than the diesel version especially on light to moderate loads. I sold that one with over 12,000 hours on it and kept the diesel. It is in good shape and will start to about -10 F with 10-10W oil & #1 fuel in it using only glow plugs. (I recommend plugging it in below 10 F) It is a cheap running tractor for light/moderate loads (half the fuel) and again a nice solid unit if you like diesels. As IHMAN said, rear end problems were recalled and fixed a long time ago, some think the TA is a weak spot, but if they work, use it properly and they will last thousands of hours without problems.

The 460/560s went through a recall their second year of production. the national recall on them was for the rear ends that were dropping out of them because of final drive failures. The problem was that the bearings weren't lasting. IH swapped out bearings and the problems were solved. IH had been using essentially the same rear end since the 1939 H/M and it was maxed out with 60 HP being put through it. Ideally, the field overhaulers would put a stamp on the serial plate saying it was updated and good to go.

They are good tractors and thousands are still running around baling, loading, plowing, and parading. I would love to have a 560 wf dsl fast hitch. I say go for it if she's in good shape.
