My H will start to miss some times, it runs rich, when baling this past summer you would see a blackish haze from the stack, if u turned in the main jet screw to eliminate the black smoke u wouldn't have enough power to run a 14T baler in a lite crop of hay, also 5th gear cannot get rolling at a stand still have to start off in 4th and quickly shift into 5th and hope for no incline in the road. (power wise it sucks) I have changed the plugs, i believe they were D15 champions, rebuilt the carb (last winter) with a new throtle shaft, changed plug wires (from caseih) 3 weeks ago, played with the timing ( magneto), have good fuel flow out drain of carb, washed out fuel tank about 6 years ago, set the valves last winter and put in valve seals, it is a FBH serial # (distolate engine) When this thing starts to miss you get a air rushing sound from the intake, rpm drops, pull the choke out quickly it will rev up a bit and run fine for a bit then do it all over again when it feels like it.It has also shot flame a foot high above the stack a couple of times, i had to replace 1 spark plug 3 weeks ago after i changed the plug wires (quite firing) but still misses when it feel like it.Couldn't find anything wrong with cap and roter, reset the points 3 weeks ago also, i want to pull the intake apart to see if the wire mesh is plugged up in the air cleaner. Ran it with the valve in the exhaust manifold in all positions when in the H position it took the frost off of the carb on a cool evening, so what gives?

It could very well be one or some of the things mentioned by Wayne. I agree you must have a real snappy spark for these old girls to run well. Since the "rushing air" sound developes when it misses, the governor is trying to force it to keep RPMs so, another possibility is a crack in the intake that gets worse as it runs. The way we have tested for that is to squirt ether around the manifold and when it revs up, you know it's sucking air at that spot. gotta be real carefull not to start a fire tho and have someone with and extinguisher nearby.

I would agree with Wayne, change the condenser and see if that cures the problem. If it doesn't
I would replace the coil, when the coil gets hot they will start to fail if they're starting to get weak. Hal

Thanks for the advice, will try to pick up a condensor on the weekend. the intake manifold gsks were changed when i had the head off to change the head gsk 8 years ago this past 2 years i really started using the tractor for some field work. when i had the head off, we sand blashed the exhaust manifold, welded up a crack by the valve in the manifold and freed the valve up.

When this happens next time, check for spark quality. Your coil or condenser could be failing after getting warmed up. This would be my first area of concern.
You should ALWAYS have a snappy, blue spark capable of jumping 1/4" or larger gap.
Quit playing with the spark & set it to fire at or slightly after Top Dead Center when cranking the engine by hand. That is what the engineers at the factory specified.
Could your manifold have an internal leak?
The H position on the all-fuel manifold was for use with distillate fuels to better atomize the fuel before it entered the cylinder.

Forgot to mention that it will miss its warming up and fully warmed up.
