How do you remove the worm shaft so that the head can be removed on a Farmall H? I removed the retaining nut on the front and loosened the bolts on the universal joint and the worm came out only enough that the bearing came all the way out and then I could not move it anymore.

Do what Charles an Rusty said, but :o) you may have to push/pound out the steering shaft from the u-joint that is next to the steer shaft support before the complete shaft is removed. I use a brass drift to do this job, just look out you don't lose the half moon key that is slotted in the shaft. Just an add on because i'm sure that Charles an Rusty have done this a few times like me :o) Unless you want to leave the shaft hanging out the front of the boleter, not recomended because of the room you take up an you may run into it every time you wanted to go around the front of the tractor :o(

Is the shaft free from the u-joint? If so, all you should need to do is rotate the shaft, it should just un-screw itself right on out. If it won't, do as Charles said and remove the big cover so you can look in there.

You have to remove the entire shaft. Take off radiator hood. Large nut at top of steering post will come off. You can the unscrew the shaft coming out with thru the front. I am pretty sure this is the same as an M and this is what I did.
