Is there a way to replace the seal without removing the entire pinion carrage? Also, anyone have a good part number for the seal? Thanks folks!!

Yes you can replace the seal. However do not try to remove the bearing cage. You must first take the bull gear off the axle before you can remove the bearing cage. The seal runs on the brake drum, so when you remove the drum, there is a space between the pinion shaft and the seal. I used a puller with the jaws turned out to get the old seal out. It will come out in pieces, but with some help from pry bars, etc, it's not too difficult to get it out. Make sure you also get a new seal (gasket washer) that goes under the retainer washer for the brake drum. If you don't have that, oil will leak around the splines of the pinion shaft.

I presume you are referring to the seal behind the brake drum, the answer is yes. My sons & I have done 3-H"s & an M. Maybe more.
You need patience, chisels, punches, Vise-Grips, hammer, & more patience.
Try to collapse the seal housing and take parts of it out at a time. The old original seal is difficult, but not impossible to get out.
Your IH dealer can get the seals; put 2 new ones in each side and put some grease in between the 2 seals so the outer one will have a little lube while acting as a backup for the inner seal. Send an e-mail if you need more info.
