Front wheels wobble badly on the old 15-30. The spindle nuts are tight. What do you do on these old ones, that don't have tapered bearings? It appears that the inner bearings, or the inside of the rim, must be worn badly, although the bearings don't appear to be galled or pitted. Do you replace bearings (if they are even available), and hope the inside of the rim isn't worn? Is there some way to shim them up, or something? I'll bet the Cowman, or some of you other guys have a practical answer.

loren, the straight roller bearings have an outer race driven into the wheel.take it apart and check it out. have you had these wheels off?there is a spacer in the wheel also between the inner and outer bearings. these rollers and races could be really worn badly or not put together right.i have some early 15-30s and none of them seem to wobble so i wonder about the assy.mostly kingpins and drag link worn on ours that make them move a little. how much wobble are we talking about? let me know. russ

Russ-Is the inner bearing a three piece bearing assembly? A sleeve on the spindle, the roller, and an outer race driven into the wheel? When I took the wheel off, the roller stayed on the spindle. I didn't notice a race driven into the wheel, but maybe I'm just not seeing it.

Russ-I found the race. I think I had some of the washers, next to the spindle nut, arranged in the wrong order. I had a small thrust washer on either side of the large thrust washer, with the three bolt holes in it. I took it apart, and put the large thrust washer, with the bolt holes, next to the outer bearing, and put the two small thrust washers on, outside of that, next to the spindle nut. It took all the play out of the left wheel, and took most of the play out of the "furrow side" wheel. Could be that the "furrow" side wheel has more wear on the inner bearing. Will have to disassemble, and compare from side to side. Hope I now have the washers in the right order, and also hope you din't tear apart one of your wheels already. Thanks for your help.

loren, you have found the problem! that is something i did not think of on the washer order.like you say its old and will have some wear.i like to quote the ih manuals " assembly is the reverse of disassembly". sometimes by the time i get ready to put something together all memory is erased. good luck and keep that old 15-30 in good shape. russ
