I have a farmall h which has gas to the carb. but no farther. I've taken it apart, and everthing seems okay, but I'm not getting any gas at the sparkplugs.

farmall h 6 volt battery hookup in reply to brian 37, 10-31-2005 07:38:05
I have a farmall H with the 6 volt system. Is the postive terminal the one that gets the ground wire. I have it set up this way, but when I try to start the tractor the Negative terminal connector starts to melt and smoke. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas. I took the carb apart and let it soak for a few days and then put it back together with a new rebuid kit. Just have to get it adjusted now. Have to ckoke it until it floods, starts to backfire, let off the choke and it will start for a few sconds.

I had the exact same problem last weekend when I changed the fuel bowl. Couldn't figure it out. Took me hours of fooling around until I got mad and gave it a whack with the wrench. Tried to start it one more time and it fired up. Stalled again. Hit it again and it has run perfect since. Go figure. Sometimes chunks of whatever get stuck and just need some persuation.

I know what you mean. The needle in the carb on my H wouldn't shut off, peee'd gas everywhere, so we replaced then needle and seat, cleaned out the crud, and put new gaskets in.

Then it wouldn't stay running. It quit on Dad, so he picked up a rock and smacked the carb. Ran good the rest of the day. Did the same thing again 2-3 more times. Last time I started 'er up she fired and ran for over an hour.

Sometimes physical violence is the only thing they understand, you know?

Make sure your intake manifold is tight and check your compression. Hold your hand over the carburetor and have someone crank the engine to see if there's suction on your hand. If there's no suction your atomized fuel can not be sucked into the engine. It needs that manifold vacuum
to do this. Hal

Have you really taken it apart or just opened it up to see what it looks like inside?? I'd guess you need to rebuild the carb, kits costs around $15-40 depending on which kit you get. You could have a number of things wrong in it. From a stuck float clogged passages etc.

Have you had the carburetor competely apart? What did it look like inside? The needle valve could be stuck, the float could be rusted to the pin, the fuel inlet screen might be completely plugged with rust, etc. Start by removing and inspecting the inlet screen.
