Paint color for Mccormick?Did a search and it looks like IH 2150 is the paint that is supposed to match origional.I bought a rattle can of it and one of present use color.I sprayed them side by side on scrap metal and couldn't see any real difference, and both looked to orange-red to me.I thought it was a deeper darker red that was used on the farmalls etc. back then, and that is what I an looking for. More of a fire engine red.Doe's anybody have any codes for a base/clear or auto enamel that they have used to get a darker red with lots of depth and shine? thanks' Jim.

What year? The IH red paint that was used beginning in 1936, I believe, was IH 50 which crosses to PPG 70019/DuPont 7410. in about mid 1949 the color became IH 1102B, then sometime later IH 201 -- IH 50, IH 1102B and IH 201 are no longer available from Case-IH, I am not sure they can be mixed, but I haven't tried. The 2150 that most people seem to like and which is still available from Case-IH crosses to PPG 71310/DuPont 96766. IH 2150 replaced 201 in 1961, and was initially used on the 460, 560, 240, 340 and other IH tractors being built at that time.

Mistake -- as noted IH 50 can still be mixed, I did not mean to include it with 1102B and 201. If your tractor is pre 1949, that is the correct color.

the tractor is a 54 sw4.I was reading all the old posts on color last nite.I am looking for that deep dark red without the orange tint that others are looking for.Think I will get PPg to mix a bit of 70019 to see what it looks like.

70019 is IH 50, IH 50 was discontinued by IH in 1949, so it is not the "correct" color. I'm not saying you won't like it.

Go ahead and use the 2150, you can get the paint from Dupont or PPG and spend quite a bit more money but you will not like the results of the high priced paint any better than the 2150. Everyone I know uses the 2150.

A friend of mine uses the expensive PPG and I use the 2150. 99 out of 100 people cannot tell the difference. It is mainly in the prep and method of painting than in the paint itself. Heck, I've had really good looking paint jobs using the cheap spray cans from Fleet Farm or Tractor Supply or Menards and bad results using PPG. Just do a good patient job whatever the brand and you'll be happy.
