well picker and 560 showed up thursday, saturday finnally got mounted and of course everything was froze up. spent all afternoon getting everything loose and by 4:00 was picking corn, man what a machine, i cant wait to get everything shined up. however that will have to wait cause on the the 2nd load we had a gearbox lock up. spent sunday morning taking it apart. hopefully we can get it back together today or sometime this week,so we can finish picking. what abreeze this thing is to mount and dismount, done it three times in 2 days and it only took about 10 minutes. yes i know it would be easier to get off a put in a pin and hook up a driveshaft, but thats a whole other issue. thanks to everyone who has helped me with questions ive had. hope to have pictures when we get it back running, as well as the one which caught on fire. thanks to everyone. jd

Sure does bring back memories. Some not so good ones. Had a 560 gas in the picker. The fall of 89 was so hot when we picked the gas would boil in the gas tank. 560 run hot too and took oil ever since. Few years later it was cold. We got an ice storm, then it got very windy. That day we picked. When you heading in to the wind, the ice would break off the corn when the head pulled it down and the ice would hit you in the face.

Brings back memories of hauling in with the M in Iowa around the middle to end of Oct. with 6 layers of clothes and a wool scarf that only left the eyes uncovered. Kelly Ryan elevator going up into 4 high picket outside cribs. Two steel flare boxes that would tip over in a hurry if you didn't watch what you were doing. Dad says "I ain't never seen corn like this. Must be making 125 bu. to the acre". When in fact just a few years later we were trying to push the 'ol 203 with 2 row head through 150 bu corn. Open station, 24 degrees and we thought we were really big time now. Wow this just sent me back 40+ years and it feels Just fine thank you very much! Need those pictures to get the real fix though. Back '75 dad and I put away 35,000 bu. useing a 234 on a 856 I did most of the hauling never did keep up to picker. We finished Dec.2. Next year starting building drying bins. Dad said I'm riding in the cab of combine not freezing my a$$ on that machine anymore. I still pick a little ear corn every year for cattle feed. Those were as they say " The Good Old Days".

Tator, we really would like to see those pictures when you get them. I started out hauling in from behind a 2MH on an M, and when we went to the 234 with the picker sheller on the 560, we had no idea how they could improve on that. HUH, What were we thinking? Certainly not a quarter of a million dollar combine that's for sure.
