Someone stole my breather cap while the H was parked near the road overnight.Got my gas too. They better hope I never see them. Why would someone want my breather cap?Gas I can sort of understand.I must be in klepto-ville.Cant hold on to anything.Even got a security cam,but I mistakenly parked out of its sight.last year I caught 2 stealing cut firewood, and one tried to tell me he was just "helping me clean up".Yet another reason to find that new place I have been wanting.sorry I just had to vent..

My late Step Dad had a full gas can setting by his bulk tank one time some one stole it made it about 1/4 of a mile. The boy came back later and apoligized to him. It was used motor oil.

Someone siphoned the gas out of our SH last summer when it was parked near the road. Sure didn't make it very far when we went to bring it home. Also had someone steal the pre-cleaner off one of our 460s a few years back.

They are universal! Some SOB went into my shed at the farm and removed a brand new battery from a Firebird I had stored in there. I checked the car on Friday afternoon because I was going to take the battery out..it was gone Saturday morning. About three weeks later the family that rented my farmhouse had their GMC Jimmy stolen out of the yard..a bicycle left at the gate..I figure little punks from a nearby town stole bikes, rode out into the country at night to see what they can boost..a whole raft of these kinds of theft..probably the same little SOB's..and then if you caught the little creep and slapped him around you would end up being the person charged...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Dave I know how you feel I got too go to court Nov 3rd cause I held a 15 year old down till the cops came when I caught him stealing out of my barn. If I would have knew the kid I would have let him go and went too his house but I never seen this punk before. Us hard working guys just dont stand a chance.

Back in the early 70s (FIRST FUEL CRISIS) I remember being woke in the middle of the night by the sound of gunfire. My dad was standing on the front porch cutting loose with a 12 guage on some gas theives. His theory was that bird shot at that range wouldn't kill anyone but would scare the *&^% out of them. Just as well, turned out later it was a couple of my mom's nephews.

Messing with someone's lifeline around here will get you shot for sure, and that includes vehicles, gasoline, and firewood. I've never had that problem, but I have a few attack geese on the property:) Best watchdogs to have.

Unfortunately if I was to try any of that I'd be the one in jail. And the perps get away again.

There was a person near us who was sure their fire wood was being stolen by the neighbor but couldn't prove it. To test this they cored out a piece of wood and filled it with black powder. Put it back in the pile and waited.

Sure enough, one night a huge Ka-BOOM!!! was heard and the neighbors chimney bulged and crumbled.

NO firewood was stolen since then..... ..

I'd look around real good within throwin range for that cap. Probably took it off by mistake and threw it to be spiteful. May be in the bushes nearby...or maybe they just needed one like I do. Wouldn't ever steal one though. Can't see having a lot of pride in a tractor when your are staring at stolen goods every time you ride on it.

Sloroll: A neighbor was having trouble with gas going from his storage tank. Always happened on a weekend night, so he decided it must be party goers and maybe under the influence of alcohol. He go the fuel supplier to switch gas and diesel. He actually heard them, watched as they poured the diesel into their car some 500' away. The Ford didn't work very well on diesel, finally it wouldn't run at all.

In the morning he phoned the police. They took a sample, then went to visit the registered owner. He was the dad of the culperts. No charges were laid. My understanding the boys would have been better off dealing with police than dad.

Back in 1947, (Tells how old i am, don't it?)I gpt a job with Gulf Oil in one of their stations. A man came in with a '40 Chevy coupe, and said "hold on until i open the trunk!" In the trunk he had bolted in a gas tank, and told me to put the gas in there, which i did. I asked him why he used that tank-did the regular one leak? No, he said it was for the gasoline thieves!

He told me he could always tell who was stealing his gas, by the neighbor boys' cars broken down along the roads and streets! Said it took them quite a while to figure out how the water got into their gasoline! One time, my neighbor boy decided he liked my brand of gasoline better than the stuff sold down street, so he helped himself to my gas about once a week! Had it all figured out when i would buy gasoline! It worked fairly good for several weeks, until i installed a "set" rat trap inside the gas tank door, and wired it onto an eye-bolt inside! Now, his parents ran the local bar, next door to me, down a long driveway. I'd go there most every night for a brewski and to gab with the other guys. not long after i put in the rat trap, their oldest kid came into the bar with his fingers all bandaged up! I asked him what happened to them, and he said he'd got them caught in a door! HMMM!! My gas stopped disappearing right after that!

Hal: Speaking of good stories. A man I was aquainted with some distance away was loosing gas from storage tank. He installed a lock. Heard a noise one night, went to the bedroom window, and in the moonlight he could see 3 guys trying to syphon gas from his relatively new Crown Victoria. He decided give them a good scare by firing a few rounds from his 300 Savage. His wife, alarmed he may do something he'd be sorry for, jumped out bed, triped and fell against her husband just as he fired the first round. Bullet went through trunk and gas tank on new Crown Vic. Luckily no one was hurt, no fire, and no one ever stole gas there again.

We haven't had anyone steal gas from us, but we have had people do things to ours. About 6 years ago we were delivering a load of hay to a farm several miles away and on the journey, the truck (a 79 International Loadstar with a 392 4bbl) just started to die out. We opened the hood to see some gritty substance in the fuel filter. Not sure if it was sand or sugar, but we never got it fully out of the fuel system, even after dropping and cleaning out the tank, and the truck never ran the same way again.

Sugar in a fuel system is bad news. We were testing some stuff years ago to use in military vehicles in case the the vehicles had to be abandoned. I said then a pound of sugar would do the job. Hal
