I am looking for a source for a rebuild kit, or a new replacement engine oil pump for a IH 504 with a C 153 [gas] engine. The dealer says not available ..Huh? A search of the usual suspects-[parts sources] seems to confirm that, everbody has them at reasonable prices for the diesel. But for the gas models the few I can find listed go for $600+. I just know there has to a source out there somebody please help me find it.

If there were any metal particles in that oil pan
there's probably more metal in the oil passages
on that engine. The engine should be torn down and the block completely cleaned if the pan had metal particles because you're going to circulate
all that through the engine again once you start using the tractor. Hal

The engine was cleaned before we rebuilt it, but thats the reason I think it was an older problem. The engine and pan were quite clean when we tore it down and my friend didn't notice much of anything in the oil or filter when he changed the oil, and he is enough of a mechanic himself that I am sure he checked it. I might add there was no sign of scoring on the bearings, but they were oversized.
Is there any chance you might be able to come up with the part number on those gears? It would save a lot of argument with the guy behind the parts counter.

Most of those dealers won't give out the part numbers. Call this number and ask for Dave in farm equipment parts. 1-800-732-0017

Dave told me me the gears were in Case/IH's warehouse in Philadelphia PA. He can drop ship
all those parts to you if you use a credit card.
They have 4 dealerships, 2 in PA and 2 in Delaware. You can double check the parts with him. I gave him the 504 tractor number and the C153cid engine. Hal

Here's the old part numbers off the oil pump sketch on the gear parts you may be needing. Send me your email address and I'll send you a copy of the sketch. Gear & shaft assy 375789R91
and Oil pump idler gear 227713R1. These numbers are from the original pump sketch and may have changed with replacement gears. I wouldn't order these until you view the sketch. Hal

Have you tried to obtain gears from from your local IH dealer? This info is on all the computers at these dealerships, they have to have enough ambition to search for these parts. Not all dealerships are the same. Hoober Equipment
really go out of their way to help a customer.
I was surprised they were available. Hal

Try the Thefordsonhouse at 906-786-5120 or email them at info@thefordsonhouse.com. What's the problem with your oil pump? Hal

Tractor belongs to a friend, he spun a bearing in it. When we rebuilt it we checked the oil pump over and discovered a lot of scoring on the pump gears. I think the pump damage predates his spun bearing problem to one of the previous owners. Not exactly sure of the source of the problem but we are stuck with it anyway. The one thing that puzzles me is heavy scoring on the gears but almost none on the pump body.

Those gears are available from Case/IH. You can call 1-800-732-0017 and have them drop shipped
to you. The price is $168.00 for the two gears and gasket. I talked to Dave in parts. You need to ask for farm equipment parts. The new pump was $595.00. Hal
