I was running a rotary mower for 3 hours and was headed up the field road for home when my M just stopped running. It was running like the champ it is when all of a sudden the engine wound down to a stop. I tried to restart it but no luck. I had compression, chocking brought out the smoke, so I knew I had fuel. I figured it had to be electrical so I pulled the cap. Everything looked good except when I went to pull off the rotor to check the points I realized the rotor just spun around. I hope its the pin that holds the gear on. Any other ideas? I do have a M&W hydaulic system on it. I suspect there is a gear there, too.

Thanks in advance---Steve

She done and went and ate the woodworf key on the gear so pull the pump and pull the gear replace the key retime it and your good to go Maybe or it could get more serious like cam gear and so on but i think it is just the key as they will eat several keys on the pump dist. drive before they eat anything else .

I bet its the wiring. Check the little resistor inbetween the battery and alt. if it has been converted. They burn out and depending on how it was wired it may have cut the tractor off. May be a supply wire on the coil or coil itself.

All you can do is just start taking it apart, and figure out what's wrong... There's no one thing that breaks ALL the time...

It could be a sheared-off distributor shaft.

The key in the timing gear on the front of the pump may be sheared. That live pump puts lots of extra stress on the system...
