Farmall H Axle

Howdy All, Just bought a Farmall H but It has 2 differant lenth axle's on the back one's about 6 inches longer then the other the guy showed me a picture when it was new and one was short and one was longer so it hasant been changed out. Just wondering why it would be that way. Thanks

Unless the factory made a mistake, both axles should have been the same or one was replaced along the way somewhere. 60 or so years of use can require a few repairs along the way. 100 inch (long) axles were an option for certain crop situations like cultivating 6 rows of 22" spaced sugar beets. My Dad had an H with the long axles.
