Just finished a rebuild on a 706 with a 282 diesel. Hearing a knock in the engine thats worse at low engine speed. We traced it to a couple of injectors by moving the injectors from front to back. Thought it was the injectors, so we replaced them with rebuilt injectors. This however did not cure the problem. Do I just have air in the fuel system, or some other problem?

I'm with the tractor vet on this one. That engine is very touchy, especially on sleeve installation, piston-to-sleeve fit, and wrist pin bushings. How much of a "rebuild" did you do?

Did you replaced the sleeves, on a dry sleeve engine the sleeves need to be a precision fit to get any life out of them. We had an 856 that haunted us at work with breaking a sleeve even after replacing it about 4 different times. Each time it would be knocking or ticking when it happened. Not to scare you but its a possibillity.

Did you rebuild the rods ???? did you FIT EACH PISTON To THE HOLE????? by mic. the out side of the piston and checken the inside bore with a mic. ???? and did you hone the sleves with a ridge hone after you installed them ???? did you plastia gauge the bearing???? If you did not do all of the above then it could be any place . Did ya have the head rebuilt and did they get the valves set correctly in the seats some valve must stick out of the head and some valves must be resessed and with out running out in the rain and looken at the books in the truck my mind can not remember that is why i have all the books . And somebody will tell me that this is not ROCKET SICENCE but if ya want a engine to run good and last long then it is . I build every engine like a 100000 dollar racing engine and PLUM REFUSE TO DO AND IN CHASSIE
