I am restoring a 1936 F-12 sn 60084. It seams to me it would have been made before the change to red in Nov. 1936, but even between the parts I have taken off is red. I have not found a speck of gray anywhere. Dose any one know around what sn the change took place. Or what month mine would have been made?

Thanks for any help!

According to decision 100 of the Farmall paint Committe as found on www.wisconsinhistory.org/libraryarchives, all tractors produced after November 1, 1936 were to be painted Harvester Red #50 except for the ground wheels. Wheels were to be Harvester red color varnish. If the F-12 was prior to this date, it should have been gray. It is our understanding that there were two shades of gray in use. Which one is appropriate? Decision 100 also refers to the "custom" colors as requested by the customer.

I restored a 1935 F20. In 1935 it would have been gray when it left the factory, but I never found a trace of gray on it either. My guess is the original gray was completely gone (nothing but rust) when someone years ago repainted it red. I removed lots of 1/4" thick brushed on red paint before I got it back down to bare metal.

Since F12 serial numbers are 48660-81836 for the 1936 model year, it's likely that yours was built late spring/early summer if the build sequence was consistent throught the year. I would think that it was likely gray when it left the factory.

Thanks Dale!
I think I finaly found some gray. Looks like thay saved the original decals when it got painted red. I scraped off what little was left of the drive joint cover decal and found a little bit of gray! Now I just need to figure out if it was the lighter gray or the dark. Looks to be the dark gray. thanks!

mine is a 1934, I only found some grey on the inside of the front tire forks. Repaints to red were very common.

Your F-12 looks very nice! Mine is orange right now. Dont ask why. There is a pic on it in the sn list. i have been taking parts off all day and am finding red under all the parts. If it was changed to red some one realy did it right! And as to this point destroyed all evidance of its nice formar gray. I hope to find some gray on it. I would like it to be gray, but I realy want it to be the color it was deliverd. Thanks

the change was made in november of 1936 for the 37 models. since it is a 1936, it would most likely be grey. buy it sounds like you want it red. paint it red. its your tractor. pg

I have several wall calendars and there's an F-12
in each one and they're all painted red. I really
thought they were gray. If you want gray I would paint it gray with red wheels. Hal
