I purchased the 54 super MTA I asked about yesterday. All #'s match Z codes. Runs good. New rubber. I think tractor my have been repainted a long time ago. The decal on hood has super over MTA in circle. It doesn't have the wing with Torque Amplifier in it. What does that mean? Serial is 61149 I think. Is this emblem correct?

I haven't read your original post, but if it has a torque amplifier the decal is wrong. The round MTA decal is for those tractors that were shipped WITHOUT a TA. I suppose one could have been installed later.

My tractors serial is followed by a S, and has a TA. If a tractor was delivered without TA, why would the decal say Super MTA? Wouldn't it just say Super M? I was thinking it might just be an very old repro sticker, maybe thats why it doesn't have the wing with torque amplifier printed in it. I've looked on several sites and haven't seen another like it. I can send pictures when I get tractor home. Thanks

Because whoever repainted the tractor put on the wrong decal. IH did not produce Super M's after the Super MTA came out, even though the SM and SMTA without a TA are for all practical purposes the same tractor. BUT, the Super M and the Super MTA without the torque amplifier are different in that SMTA's with or without the TA are longer than the Super M, IE both have the longer TA housing. The S suffix on the serial plate is proof that your tractor has a factory TA. Although the serial tag could have been changed also. There were a lot of SMTA's produced without the TA, as it was an option.

I read your original post, you said it has a TA -- so what I said above is still correct, far as I know. But, see if your serial number is followed by an S (TA with provision for 540 rpm independent PTO) or R (TA with provision for transmission driven PTO). If it came with a TA, it should have one of those letters after the serial number, not saying all of them did.
