Just aquired a non running Model B... Still has what I thought was the original generator on it, but the tractor has a 12 volt battery on it.

I have cleaned the generator off to see if it is stampted either 6V or 12V, but cannot find anything on it. The number on the tag is either 110 355 0012, 110 355 0U12, or 110 355 0J12 (hard to make out that second number/letter in the last four. I tried to cross all four on Delco Remy's website, but came up empty handed.

Thanks for any help!

Put a voltage meter on the terminals and find out what it's generating.....7-8 volts for a 6 volt generator, 13-14 for a 12 volt generator.

Yhat # is a 6v. It could have been changed to 12v but the rebuilder should have taken the plate off. Just have someone check it out. It is not uncommon for the batt to be changed and didnt know that it was a 6v system. Is the cutout still on top of the gen?

easy... you throw it in the scrap heap and purchase an alternator. alternators rock, especially if you are running lots of lights.

the old delco generators had color coded tags. the six volt ones had black backgrounds on their model number tag, the twelve volt tags were red and the twentyfour volt ones were orange.

Farmall, What voltage do you want it to be??? I have used 6 volt Generators to charge 12 volts SIMPLY by using a full fledged 3 terminal 12 volt Voltage Regulator (instead of a 2 wire cutout relay and light switch controller) on them. HOWEVER Im NOT saying thats the correct way to do it, Im JUST SAYING Ive done it n it worked. The better n correct way would be to have a good Generator shop rebuild it as a 12 volt by replacing the fields etc.

I have an original 6-Volt generator from a "B".

The tag number is 1101355.

I believe the rest of the # is a date code, and unimportant to this discussion,

So, the number you have is the correct 6-Volt generator for a "B".

It is not IMPOSSIBLE, though, for someone to have put 12-Volt guts into a 6-Volt generator, without changing the tag.

Take it to a generator shop. Had mine inspected, brushes replace, and checked over, all for $20.00. They will be able to tell you what you have.

Farmall,This is not always true but most 6v gens are a round straight case, most 12v have a stepped case that is smaller on the tail end than the front.
