I have a 1940 B with a single front wheel as most of the Bs Hs and Ms imported into the UK in the 1940s had single front wheels for going down the ridged potato rows. Having said all that most of the Hs and Ms were fitted with the wide front axles. At the same time most of the imported funny green and yellow ones were single front wheels. MJ

Both B's & BN's were available with a choice of two different sized single wheels or the twin front wheel tricycle style.

DaveBN nailed the easiest way to tell a B from a BN.

i believe that the single front wheeled tractors were used in irrigated fields-- i have seen many older models in the southwest. the single wheel would run in the furrow better than a tricycle front end with two wheels -- and it didnt collect the mud as badly--tho i have seen them well caked--they continued to roll

The BN isn't as wide in the rear as a normal B is. So no unless the rear end is norrow its still just a B

Yes, single front wheel was an option on many of the tractors of that era IH and others. Easiest way to tell a B from a BN is that there is a space between the right fender and the right seat support on a B. The BN right seat support is right up against the right fender. Dave.
