Finally found some time on Sunday to work on the tractor for a while. I bought this 47'"M" about a month ago, it hasn't ran in about 1 1/2 years. Previously I cleaned the tank and fuel line, replaced the battery and battery cables, cleaned the old spark plugs and replaced the oil in the oil bath cleaner. I took the carborator off and cleaned it real good and put it back together (no rebuilding kit)but I found where it was clogged up. I put it back together shot a few squirts of starter fluid in the carb pulled back the choke and bumped the starter. WoW, she spitted and sputtered a few times then fired right up. I couldn't get it run without the choke, so I took the carb apart again and found it had clogged again. I cleaned it again put it back together and she fired right up. After a few carb adjustments she started running just fine. I drove it around the yard a few times switching gears. The clutch works great, the brakes hold good and all 5 gears engaged and pulled good. It still needs a lot of work mainly a complete and true carb rebuild not a quicky like I did Sunday, plus a complete tune-up new plugs/wires, rotors, coil, oil change (SAE 30), radiator flush, plus a muffler, exhaust/intake manifold has a hole in it and needs replaced, only has one good rear tire others are dry rotted, etc, etc, etc. But hey I got'er running. P.S. I got home from work Monday and went straight over to the old "M" turned the gas on, pulled back on the choke and bumped the starter one time. It started running so quickly, and easily it sort of caught me off guard. I owe a big thanks to a lot of people on this forum, this is the first tractor I have ever tried to bring back from the dead and you guys have been informative and inspirational. Just as I'm writing this now I am already thinking up questions to ask on this forum.

It just doesn't get any better than that. My 1940 H had sat in a shed for 17 years. Once I convinced it that it would run, it started up and ran almost as if it had been running just yesterday.

On my M there is a hole in the exhaust part of the manifold that points to the front. This hole is to let rain water out before it gets into the engine. This hole is supposed to be there but does get plugged up with carbon deposits most of the time. Just an FYI…

If standing on the left side of the tractor facing the manifold there is a small fitting that extends out from the right side of the manifold. I don't know that may be the drain hole you are referring to, but this hole I have is on the left side and is kind of oblong and about the size of a half dollar. You can tell its from the rust. The manifold is very old and rusted I will have a time getting it off.

The hole that I'm referring to is just above where the carburetor mounts on the exhaust part of the manifold and should not be more than about the size of a 6 gauge wire.
