Gear speeds for Farmall H

Is there any difference between gear speeds on the Farmall H during its production? I am being told that you could have 3 different ratios or speeds on an H depending on distillate or gas engine and year of production. I was under the assumption that at best there may have been one gear change on the transmission, ie. 1st being 1 1/2 mph vs 2 mph as an example.

Please advise.

The book I have lists the gears for the H as follows (MPH), First 2 1/2, Second 3 3/8, Third 4 1/8, Fourth 5 1/8, Fifth 15 5/8 with Reverse 2 7/8. For the Super H, First 2 5/8, Second 3 3/4, Third 5, Fourth 6 5/8, Fifth 16 1/4 and Reverse 3 1/4. It also mentions about a 2-4 HP difference between Gas and Dist. (Less power with Dist.) which might account for a slight speed difference in gears between tractors. I own a 1940 H and a 1951 H and they both run at the same speeds in the same gears.

Distillate or gasoline all used the same gears. There was an optional one mph low gear, as well as an optional seven mph fourth gear. The super H had the seven mph fourth gear standard, and I believe other gears may have been faster as well.

Rusty, I have an H, with the X1F suffix, as for fast fourth, and also have a 54 Stage II SH, the H will flat run off from the Super in fourth, as in almost 50 percent faster, both on 13.6 x 38 rubber, both running stock rpm. I wonder why?

Earl the SH 4th gear is slower than the high speed 4th in a H. Which is what your experiencing.

That one is a mystery, maybe not all super Hs had the faster gears?

As far as i know,supers were faster in every gear,than straights. In m/w-6 supers were 6 1/4 or 6 1/2 in 4th.
