Since there is a lot of talk lately about Farmall 806s, figured I"d ask a few questions. My next tractor will be an 806, hopefully in the next couple years. How economical would it be to use 6 row equipment (planter, cultivator, etc.), how bout 4 row equipment? How big of field cultivator, chisel plow? Right now I have a 14" IH tandem disk, and will be getting a 4-16 pull-type plow for my Oliver 1650, Would the 806 even notice these pieces of equip. were behind it? When I do get into major field work, I"m leaning toward min-till and/or ridge-till, how much would that affect the power requirements for the planter, cultivator, FC, or chisel plow? Thanks for the help, Rich

Hi Rich, I have 2 haybines, a 499 New Holland hydraswing, and a 1190 IH. I like the 499 for chopping. I chop 1st, and 2nd crop hay. I use a 450D on the 499 then cause I have the 806 on 890 New Holland chopper. I blew the seal out of the hydrolic pump on the 450 doing 2nd crop so I used the 806 to finish. The 806 workes a lot better than 450. The 1190 gets used when i want to bale. I have a 435 IH baler, and a 56 New Holland hydrolic driven rake. Talk to later.

Rich an 806 is perfect for any job you want to do with it. My 806 to me is like having a 686, and a 1086 all in one tractor. It is handy for small jobs you would use a 686 for and big enough to do what a 1086 would do. It will not keep up with a 1086. I just have to gear down. I use it for bailing, raking, and cutting hay. I pull a 21 foot field cultivator. A 720 5-18s plow. I pull a 3 shank londoll sub soiler with it. Landoll says horse power require ments are 50 horse per shank. It is very ecnomical on fuel. 2 gallon per hour light work 5 gallon working hard. Where in Iowa are you? Im in Bremer county.

I am in Dallas County. Right now I have 5 acres of hay, looking at getting some land to rent in the next few years. I use an Oliver 1650 diesel for mowing w/ a 7 foot IH 1300 sickle mower, rake w/ a NH 56 hay rake, and bale w/ a JD 14T square baler. Sometimes use an old H for rakingHow big of a mower, rake, and baler do you use your 806 on? Thanks for your help. Rich

If you are planning on plowing deep in less than light soil 4-16s will give the 806 a workout. A 966 will handle 4-16s deep in any type of soil.

806 will compete with the biggest of them! Just may have to gear it down a notch or two. I have heavy clay I can pull 5-16" But I took a bottom off to help the plow from sagging down hill. (no sidehill hitch) 700 auto reset plow, Now it just plays with it. A place I used to work at had an 806 and pulled 6-16" 710 auto plow.
I use a 12" cutting disc with 22" blades cut really hard (angle wise) has power to spare.

A good 806 will handle 6-row equipment no problem. It will not even know a 14" disk is back there. 4-16"s probably won"t even work it, but that depends on your soil type and how deep you"re plowing. Same goes for chisel plow and field cultivator. 9-shank chisel plow would be a good starting point. 18 foot field cultivator if you"re not going too deep, 15 foot if you want to go deep.
