Steering in the snow

How well do narrow front tractors (I have an H) steer in the snow? In sand, a sharp turned wheel just pushes straight forward. Do you have to brake the rear wheels separately to steer in the snow? I have never driven a tricycle tractor in the snow, but it would be helpful to know what to expect, as I am trying to rig up a snow plow.

Thanks,

Tony

Putting chains on the front will make it will steer better. If you push too big a pile of snow, the front end will still slide. Pick up the bucket a little and the extra weight will make it steer again.

Snow isn't the problem, it's the ICE that is tough to steer on. A tricycle/narrow front tractor will be much easier (and more fun in my opinion) to clear snow with (I have both narrow & wide so I can have an opinion) since they turn very tight.

We have used these for 50 pluss yrs now and they steer ok in snow it is all in the operator. H would be a great tractor for pushing snow with front blade.

Narrow or wide front, think of your front wheels as skis. Be ready with your brakes.

Tony, you will have to use the brakes to steer in snow.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll need a little practice with the braking (just not right away, hopefully (snow)! :)
