My neighbor brought this antique sharpener over yesterday. I have been told it was used to sharpen sickle bar sections. Does anyone know how it was used? It has a lot of brackets and clamps on it.
Thanks, Steve

Yes, many years ago I used one of these sharpeners to sharpen the cycle knives. Most are designed to clamp to the steel wheel of the horse drawn mower. You remove the long knife from the mower cutter bar. It then fits within the clamps at the front of the sharpener. The sharpener stone will spin, and move up and down sharpening one side each of two adjoining knive sections. A slight lossening of the clamps allow the long knife to be moved forward to the next sections needing to be sharpened.
