Got my H running after the rebuild, head reworked , new paint etc. The tractor was converted to 12v before I got it , and I decided to leave it that way. It fired up on the second crank. It sounds good, good oil pressure but is running too rich. Adjusting the carb did not seem to help. The plugs from TSC are AC C83.I set the valve lash at .020 cold, and will readjust hot.Love to hear if you guys have any suggestions.I have gotten some good advice from this site. Ross.

ha ha, adjusting a broken carb is just that... broken. did you put a rebuild kit in there? is the choke stuck partially closed?

You should be able to adjust the carb screw to lean it out so much that it stalls. If not, like Hass indicated, its getting fuel from somewhere else, or the screw seat is damaged.

Probably the float in the carb is set too high and it is flooding. Or possibly the carb float has a hole and is not properly regulating the gas flow or the float could be sticking because it is bent and rubbing on the side of the bowl.

Ross, I just put a new Zenith on my Super A, started it for the first time just yesterday, and right out of the box, there was gas running out of the carb. Took it off, opened it up, found that the floats were not even set equally. My manual calls for 1 5/32, but mindful of City Boy's carb problem, I set them to 1 9/32, and the gas spillage ceased.

Runs clean at speed, but still has some black smoke at idle, but I haven't played with the idle mixture correctly yet. I read in my manual today at work (don't tell the boss!) that backing the screw OUT leans the idle. I thought it was the other way around yesterday.

Do you see any drips from the carb when you have her running?

Thanks for your responses. I did notice a slight drip from the main screw. The carb has been rebuilt. I probably won't have a chance to look at it till the weekend.
