Hello everyone, my name's Josh, and recently my dad bought a 1939 M from a good friend of his with serial #4706. His friend said that this particular M was one of 6 that was painted white and brought to South Dakota as a demonstrator. He was not the original owner, but there is white coming through the paint on the tractor now, so that's true. I've also seen a couple white M's around before, kind of like the white demonstrator M toy tractors ERTL makes. I've asked around, and I've been told by several people, particularly people from International dealerships, that there were white M's way back. but other people say that there never was, only that sometimes people would order M's a different color, but not just white. Just wondering if anyone else knows anything about it..really appreciate the comments! THANX

Some of the early Farmall's had three bans of the grill painted white.

Maybe some dealer wanted the whole tractor painted white ?

The white demo program was in 1950, M's were not included. Doubt if anyone was even thinking of it in 1939, as that was the year IH brought out a whole new line of tractors, there was no need to paint them white for demo purposes. Thus, the info you have is simply incorrect. Painted white for some highway dept -- yes.

Our M is a 1939, and was white at one time. No, we know that our tractor was painted white, that"s not the confusion. Before our tractor was red, it was yellow, because yes, it was owned by a county. But before they had it, it was white. We"re thinking the most likely thing is that the first owner ordered the tractor white from the factory, or there actually were white M"s. We know a few different tractor "experts" around and we plan on asking them in the near future.

The white paint is more likely an undercoating paint. My 600D has white under the red that flakes off when pressure washing, and there were NEVER any 600 demonstrators.

The white color you are seeing is nothing more than faded paint. It is true that IH would paint a tractor any color the customer wanted, but this option was used mostly by customers that ordered an entire fleet of tractors, such as construction companies, state highway departments, or county maintenance depts. The added cost of a custom color for just one tractor would have prevented most farmers from doing that. So, having said that, I suppose it is possible there may have been a fleet of white Ms, but there were never any demonstrator Ms. The only demonstrators were cubs, As, and Cs., and then only in the early 1950s.
