Now that I am about finished restoring my White Demo Farmall C, how does one go about getting insurance? I am not a farmer anylonger and live in the city of 18,000. Do you insure them or just go without.

Hello Farm Girl,

I too live in town. I've insured all my tractors with State Farm.

My Farmall H costs about $100 per year. Since State Farm has my house insured they would insure it for nothing if I stored it at the house! Would still have to pay extra when taking it to shows etc.

If I remember right, a homeowners policy covers the house & half it's value for contents. If you have some expensive item[s] say a collection, coins, guns, whatever, they want a rider policy on those specific items. You need photos, etc, if you hope to ever collect for fire or theft. Try to convince them that the 10,000.00 Purdy shotgun wasn't something you bought at Kmart last week. There is of course money involved for this rider, based on what you have & what it's worth.

Farm Girl: Be very specific when asking for quotes on insurance for farm tractors. Liability is a must, as you must protect yourself from damage to others or their property. Liability will be the cheap one. If you start looking for all perrils on loss of the tractor that will get expensive. For liability only your should be able to get a rider on your home liability.

I've had tractors for 45 years now, never carried any insurance but liability. You must protect yourself from the whims of others. If you want fire protection best approach is under contents of your shop or garage. Make sure your insurance company understands tractor is part of contents.

One other item, if your current insurance company doesn't like your specifics, time you had a new one.

Mine are insured like a collector car. They asked me how many miles I"ll put on them a year and if they under lock and key. But if they were used for farming they wouldn"t cover them.

Might be covered under your house insurance, you might ask.

I have seen one of these tractors before. Does anyone have any idea how many of them they made?

Neither rare or unusual. Serial number range is from 47010-54411, (first quarter of 1950) or about 7401 built.

I read somewhere or saw on the internet that IH made approx 200 White tractors in 1950. This one I sat on at the dealer in 1950 before my father purchased it and was painted red. This is real special to me. He passed away in 2003 and I brought the tractor home to be restored. Priceless.

I believe you can insure just anything, as long as you have the money to pay. Talk to your insurance person, see what they can do for you. Good luck, Rich

You can get it. Very expensive. Most underwriters refer to as show insurance typically found in commercial policies.

Look in the Yellow Pages under Mutual Insurance, here it is Lewis County Mutual, Marion County, etc. They can insure your house and the tractor cheaper than anybody around.(At least they did for me,I saved 100.00 a year and have better coverage.)And you do not need to live in the country.
