SC Clutch Problems - Continued:

I had clutch problems on the SC to a point that all the adjustment was taken out of the adjustment rod, and the clutch would not fully disengage, I ordered a new clutch kit and split the tractor. I have had the flywheel ground. When I took the clutch throw-out bearing carrier out of the torque tube today, the thin wall guide sleeve that the bearing carrier rides on was beat up and flared real bad on the clutch side of the carrier, apparently from the clutch shaft movement. I do not remember if the guide sleeve was retained within the torque tube cross member.

My questions are:

1. What is the purpose of the guide sleeve?

2. Is the transmission side of the guide sleeve supposed to be retained within cross member/support member in the torque tube?

3. Is the throw-out bearing carrier supposed to slide fore and aft on this guide sleeve when the clutch is disengaged/engaged?

4. If the answer to #2 above is yes, then what retains the guide sleeve in the support member?

5. If the answer to #1 is yes, what retains the guide sleeve in the cross member?

6, With the guide sleeve being beat up and expanded on the clutch side so that is won’t slide within the carrier, what is the long answer to improve my situation?

7. Is the guide sleeve available from a supplier somewhere?

I have a Operators Manual, a Parts Manual, and an Engine Service Manual that covers the engine only.

8. Is there a service manual for the other components of the SC besides the engine? I want one if it exists.

5.Don't Know
6.New Carrier
7.Some where (Maybe salvage)
8. Yes I have a torque tube that is currently not on a tractor and I will look to see If I can figure out what holds the guide sleeve in place.Could be a press fit, threads,or pin I don't really know.I have both the IH and the I&T manuels neither has anything I can find on your problem. See if you can figure out if the tube broke or just came out.I'll see what I can find.

Thank you AC. That was what I was looking for. I do have a non running SC that I plan to use for parts, but I wanted to avoid splitting it, if possible.

I will await your answer after you take a look at your torque tube.

Thanks again.

OK. The tube is a total of 5 inches long with 4 inches protruding into the clutch compartment. Still can't tell exactly what holds it in place but appears to be a press fit. Measure the piece you have and make the call. Craig

AC,

That is what I have, only in hand. The tube is tight in the bearing retainer, not tight in the torque tube. I will have to split the parts tractor and see if I have a usable tube there.

Thanks.

I can only answer the non-technical one.
This site has the IH and I&T manuals for the Super C.
You can't have too many manuals. Often having two explanations of the same thing will bring clarity.
Good luck,
Wm
