I have a '52 Super M and I am wondering where the voltage regulator was originally mounted. The tractor is a stage 1, sn.# 69xx. Currently i am set up with an alternator and want to restore back to the original config. I know some were mounted on the sterring post and some on the generator. To add more to my confusion, i have seen pictures of stage 1 super h's that have the regulator mounted under the fuel tank. if anymore info. is needed to answer my question i would be glad to forward it. thanks.

It is hard to say where it originally was. The original letter series tractors had it mounted on the back of the light box on the steering shaft. My dad had tons of trouble keeping them from shorting out after rainstorms and snowstorms. Therefore, we moved it under the hood on all of our tractors to keep it out of the elements. I don't believe any letter series tractor (including the supers) had them mounted on the gen. from the factory. The cut-out relays were, which looked almost identical from the outside, but were very different in operation. People have moved them all over, so short of looking in a parts manual, you will never know. I think the proper spot is under the gas tank on the later supers. Maybe someone with a parts manual can give you a hand.
