HELP!! I have an 806 that will not go into high range. Showed pictures of range gears to IH Mechanic. He says replace Collar Carrier and Shift Collar. Question, if I split the tractor between the clutch housing and the range trans housing, can I replace those two parts through the front of the range trans housing? If there is too much info to put into this forum, please call me at 989-975-6195. Thanks, Rick

I don't think you can. I had to change low in one that the parking brake linkage came loose on, and to do that requires pulling the differential. Its a big job, but not that hard, just time consuming. Before you start though get a manual, and pressure wash it once the seat and platform are removed. Jake

I cannot believe it would be those two parts keeping it from going into high range without those parts being visibly broken. I am assuming you have taken the top inspection plate off and can look down into the transmission. Make sure the little bolt holding the shifter fork onto the slide bar going across the top left side of trans has not broke. Sometimes the slide bar breaks in half also. I agree with the other post. The holes in the top of that inspection plate get wallowed out and have enough play to keep it from going into gear. You can buy reconditioned plates with bushings pressed in for about $150. If you have that inspection plate off, you should be able to take your hands and shift it in and out of any range. The reverse is shifted on a gear in the left side down at the bottom. I may be telling you alot you already know so I do not mean to sound too elementary. However, I appreciate people who reply to my questions keeping it simple just in case I missed something.

I would suggest checking the shifter linkages between the shifter handle and the transmission case. These can get some wear on them. Individually the linkages don't look that bad but add them together and you may have enough slop to keep it from going into gear. I know a guy with a pulling 1206 that had trouble getting it into the high side. He built up the linkages and now it shifts as good as new. I would check this before I split it.
