What's a good ball park figure to plan on spending to get a Super C painted? $1000? $2000? $3000? It's not rusty, has an old paint job and all the old baked on dirt and grease have been removed. The rims are not rusty either. I want a good paint job with hardner. A bunch of parts will have to come off and painted separately. Five or six small dents in the sheet metal need ironed out or filled. It will need sandblasted or most of the old paint somehow removed. What's your experience with cost?

I get $600 to clean, minor dent repair, prime(epoxy), and paint(2150). Add $500 - $600 to completely strip to bare metal. Add for higher priced paint such as urethane or basecoat/clearcoat.

Clarification - I have no experience, no place, no equipment and no inclination to do the paint job myself. I'm looking to hire it done. That's what I'm looking for the ball park cost of.

There was story in this year's Progressive Farmer
magazine that featured a man restoring a Super C.
I don't remember how much preparation he did to the tractor before painting, but he had someone to paint the tractor. The cost was $700.00. It never said what paint was used on the tractor.

I think if you're not going to paint it using good paint, I would let it be. If you ever think about selling it, the paint job is going to be a big attraction. I wouldn't use anything less that acrylic enamel with hardener. Hal

Sorry about that, I typed up a nice response about my cost of painting a sa with PPG omni products with hardner and some how it got lost and I wound up posting one of my questions. When the SA paint is all done, I'll have about 500 in it and a darn fine paint job. PPG Omni line. Epoxy primer, surfacer, MTK topcoat. These use hardners (iso's) and you need a fresh air system if you value your health at all. You could drop a grand in upper end paint lines but for my money the Omni line is just what the doctor ordered. Good paint, shoots nice, lays nice and looks pretty tough. Im sure Dupont has a line equal to Omni as well.

I bought this sa a while back and have started the tractor restoration part. Lots of thanks to all that have helped me along the way, CNKS, Rod, Paul and all others . Hopefully I can finish it off this winter as everything is about ready to be reassembled, another week or 2 on the tin.

I was wondering what might be the easiest way to clean and paint the implements. I've got a double plow, full cultivators, mid mount sickle bar mower, side planter/dresser and a front blade. The thought of wheeling these pieces to steel before priming makes me cringe. Does any one have a better idea short of dipping or wholesale sandblasting, like at a ship yard or somewhere?

I was wondering about these "rust converter paints" that I read about here. Has anyone tried them on rusted implements and if so, how are they holding up?

Thank You,

$100 for materials if you use IH paint and the best hardner you can get is to leave your tractor out in a gentle rain.

Yep, and it will look every bit as good if not better than the high dollar paint jobs.
