I have a Farmall H that by the seriel number, 321061 is a 1949 . Can anyone tell me what the X1 immediately after the seriel number indicates?
The tractor has live hydraulics and an aftermarket powersteering.

X1 means it is a gas engine

Yup. The engine runs on gasoline. Thank you.
When I was growing up, we had an H that had two fuel tanks. The small one was for gasoline and the larger one was for distilate. What would have been the suffix for that seriel number.

X17 - Distillate, X3 - Kerosene

I have never seen any suffix used on a distillate tractor. Just the serial number, no suffix.

Yeah, our 1940 M has no suffix after the serial number either (it has the dual tank setup). I was wondering if it is a year thing? Did they start putting the suffix on the tractors later? Or is it that when the tractors were purchased without any options they didn't get one? Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you. Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if it was kerosene or distillate. It was not complete so we just used gasoline. I was not that interested at the time, either. I sure missed a lot of information that would be useful today.
Dumb kid!
