I'd like to switch to 5W30 in my 424 diesel for cold weather. The Starter grinds a bit before engaging and but doesn't in summer.

When I bought the tractor the owner said he just had an engine job done on it, so I figure the engine's still a bit tight.

Could I use 5W30 in cold weather and switch back to straight 30 in summer?

Thanks

If the starter drive has trouble engaging in cold weather, it probably needs the oil and gunk clean off of it. Spray brake clean works well.
