Was working my M the other day and it just stopped running. Fuel was pouring out of the bottom of the carb and choke area. I have a fuel shutoff under the gas tank, so I shut that off and the fuel leak stopped. Replaced the needle and seat and float, although they appeared good. After HOURS of taking the carb off and on, same problem happens. Float level is good, I have checked for float rubbing the side of the carb somewhere, can't find anything wrong. With the bottom of the carb off, the float and N&S work like it should, when I turn the fuel on and push the float up to shut the needle and seat off, the fuel flow stops like it should. What am I missing here?

I had a very similar experience and my float was bad. Bought a new one and then this problem was solved.

How is the gasket between the two halves of the carb.?

Had the same problem with a Farmall 300 and must have had the thing off and on 15 times. The float is probably your problem. The float can be right as far as up and down but where the problem is that it is not centered and touching the divider or outer edges of the carb. Some overhaul kits give you an instrument to measure and center with. It's the most frustrating thing on those tractors I have ever dealt with.

I had similar problem on a couple of Farmalls. The pin holding the float in was so sloppy that it slipped off to the side, and needle valve never shut off.

Thanks but everytime I have taken the carb off(which has been about 20 times now!), the pin and float are in place as they should be. Other ideas?

The float must float. There may be a pinhole in the brass, or a crack. Pull the float (just the bottom half of the carb) and shake it. If it sloshes it is full of gasoline. To fix it is simple if you solder well. do the following outside. use a soldering IRON, not a gun with a trigger. Small size is ok 45-80watts. heat the float and turn it over a few times and fuel will squirt out of a hole/crack. place this as low as possible to drive out liquid fuel. Continue heating until there is no more comming out Use pulses of heat so as not to ruin existing solder.
Use steel wool to brighten the hole area. Use a flux core solder, and cover the hole with a small well "wetted" patch. Do this with least heat to avoid blowing air out the hole causing a leak in the solder. Good as new, JimN
