I am looking at an International 1466 to buy. Not sure of year! It has 4800 hr, good rubber, cab with ac(not working), good paint and fairly slick machine. Asking price is 8000.00. I have looked @ Fastline ads and they run from 8000.00 to 9500.00. Wanting to know if based on limited description if sounds like a good deal?
Also, I need to go take another close look @ machine. Are there some particular things I need to be looking for that were weak spots or common problems.
Wanted to look @ this afternoon once I get some input from you all.

....i traded my 1466 in last month on a new jx95. my tach was broke,so no idea on hours.the T/A was out on the low side.it had new rubber and no cab.paint was good and the tractor had been shedded it"s whole life.the shifter was loose and it was hard to get in reverse.it had a nice q/a koyker loader with a 8 foot bucket. the IH dealer allowed me $6000.00 on trade.he fixed the shifter and has it on his lot now for $8500.00 it was to big to use here in SW MO as a loader tractor.hard to get around the barn lot.around here those bigger hp tractors dont sell as well as the 55 to 85 hp tractors do.just to big for most folks.

I called my local dealer (IH) and asked about what it would cost to replace a T/A, and I was surprised. It's expensive. I talked with the parts counter man and he was very helpful. He told me an 856 in good working order was worth between 4500 and 6k depending on condition. So you might try calling your parts man and hope he has a lot of experience. He'll help you, and if he don't then call a different dealer.LOL

Like all I H tractors the usual weak spots are in the T/A , shifter, park lock , and on 1466 or any of the higher HP tractors the rearend . As far as price it is on the upper end of the scale.

I agree the price is on the upper end of the scale, but if it truly only has 4,800 hours and if condition indicates care it's worth it. A well cared for 1466 can easily reach 10,000 hours before needing an overhaul. The post above indicates the normal "weak points" on this model. If it passes those tests, a private owner shouldn't have any problems giving a field demo, then go for it.
