I really didnt want to go there but I just couldn't help myself. The pump is now within spec at all locations, (gear backlash, right at the limit)nice having a machine shop around. Milled the body flange, surface ground the cover plate, measured all tolerances .0035 gear to cover clearance, .005" running clearance (gear to housing side) This should be a real good test. At least if I have low pressure on this SA, I know it wont be the pump. Took me just about as long to find the $$#@$$#@&* cotter pin for the screen. After tearing the place apart, I finally found it stuck to one of the magnetic indicator bases...figures. Thanks for the numbers. Oh by the way, those 2 gaskets are of different thickness.

Scott - Post back how the reworked pump works out. I have a SH with a similarly worn oil pump. After replacing the engine's main and crank bearings oil pressure improved. But it still indicates low oil pressure than I'd like (15 - 20 psi hot).

I am contemplating remachining or replacing the pump as you just did.

Bob,

If it's any help, I got NOS gears at a very reasonable price from noshi (screen name) - I want to say $35 for the idler gear and $65 for the drive gear and shaft. After the rebuild (including new rod and main bearings) the indicator shot up to 70 psi under load and 67 at low idle - doesn't seem to matter if it's warm or cold.
