M rebuild

I am getting ready to rebuild my late M. Needs different head. Sleaves and pistons, bearings. The crank has been turned twice and needs turned again. Thinking different crank. I have a buddy who hopped up his 450. I can have his cylinder head, camshaft, crank and rods. Now some of you talk like the parts are interchangable. I am pretty sure the head and cam will work. I am wondering about the crank and pistons?

Use main and rod bearings to fit the 450 crank
and it works with no problem. The 450 rods are same length as M but have a smaller wrist pin hole.M rods will work with 450 crank.Whichever rods you use the piston and pins need to match.
The 4-1/8 inch 450 pistons go in M block if not using sleeves.4 inch and sleeve is biggest in M block without machine work.IH used to make fire crator piston sleeve sets 4 inch bore with small wrist pin like the 450 rod.Don't know if anyone still makes them that way or not.450 gas head and cam will increase power of the M.Also adapter wrist pin bushings available so the pistons out of the M could be small pin.

Not sure about this but from external observations it should work with some machine work. You might need to have the block line bored to accept the 450 crank but I doubt this. It looks like the parts catalog on here calls for the same bearings for a M and a 450 so you might be ok there. Gotta check everything and see. You also might need to install a super M sleeve kit if not a 450 sleeve kit. You might not need to eithor. The reason you might is because I'm uncertain if the crank stroke is the same on a M as it is on a 450. If the stroke is bigger on a 450, the connecting rod might strike the sleeve wall. Also have to take into account connecting rods and pistons. It will be a simple swap over as long as you ensure you have compatable parts installed in the engine.
