I have a 154 that is a low serial number. When I puch the clutch in the tractor stops but when I shift to neutral everything starts to turn and it grinds going into gear. The cluch is adjusted as far as it will go and it does disengage. I can turn the pressure plate with one hand and the cluthc plate with the other. It appears to me that the release fingers on the clutch are not contacting the throw out bearing evenly. It is a new pressure plate. Is it possible for the transmission to be twisted slightly? What else could be wrong?

CLutch brake is worn or not adjusted right. Had the same problem until I fixed mine.

Two items are possible causes.
The throwout fork may be bent (as you seem to indicate) this may cause the clutch to drag when running, but not when shutoff. A clutch is a dynamic item and the wt of the fingers and parts can change the circumstances. If it is a new PP I assume the disk is good. If the adjustment is "all the way", there is something bent. The freeplay should be about 1 inch (movement before the pedal starts to resist). adjust it to 1/2"and see if the problem is worse, or better. If this helps, I'd say the forks are bent.

A stickie, rusty or tight pilot bearing in the flywheel that holds the clutch shaft can also be the issue.
Best guesses from here in central MN,
JimN
